Pekelakh (2021)

Pekl is a Yiddish word meaning bundle. The plural is Pekelakh. Figuratively speaking, this series explores the pekelakh we all pack, carry with us, try to forget or hide, or just let be. They come in different sizes, shapes, and colors. They contain the struggles we face with family and friends, the disappointments we experience, the embarrassing moments and times we feel guilt and shame.

In this painting, the pekelakh are floating in the atmosphere trying to escape. We try to send them far away. However, our pekelakh are stuck to us. Unless we open them, examine them, and are willing to confront them, they will always be a heavy burden we carry.
